Sun Fire 280R servers are high-performance, enterprise-class, rack-optimized, entry-level servers built on the highly scalable SPARC[tm]/Solaris[tm] platform. Offering some of the best reliability, availability, and scalability features in the industry, the Sun Fire 280R comes standard with 8MB of Level 2 cache, 14 times higher than that of most comparable Wintel/Lintel servers. And with 8GB of main memory, the Sun Fire 280R enables faster transactions in I/O and computing-intensive environments. Now, with the release of 900MHz UltraSPARC III Cu Processors, the Sun Fire 280R is even more powerful.
900 MHz UltraSPARC III Cu Processors boost performance by 20 percent compared to existing 750 MHz UltraSPARC III CPUs and are ideally suited for application servers, including Oracle 9i and Oracle 11i, web servers, mail servers, directory servers, high-performance compute farms, and small databases in enterprise and Internet data centers. These CPUs can be installed in existing Sun Fire 280R systems with the replacement of only a fan tray, so no new system chassis is necessary.
