The highly integrated system design dramatically reduces component count relative to conventional network servers, making it inherently reliable. With built-in redundancy, the Sun Enterprise 5000 server can tolerate power supply, cooling, or storage failures without affecting system operation-and can automatically recover from most other failures, such as CPU faults, with minimal disruption.The main system components are hot-pluggable so hardware repairs and installations can be performed while the system is on line. Sun Enterprise SyMON software simplifies system management, lowering your total cost of ownership with an easy-to-use interface and proactive hardware failure prediction.

Optimized to provide extremely high I/O throughput, the Sun Enterprise 5000 server provides exceptional performance for demanding network-based business applications. In fact, the GigaplaneTM, our 2.6-GB/sec system interconnect, delivers more than twice the I/O capacity of competing systems. Connected to the Gigaplane are up to 14 high-speed UltraSPARCTM processors, 14 GB of memory, and 14 I/O channels. This design, combined with the multiprocessing efficiency of the SolarisTM operating environment, means the Enterprise 5000 can support more than a thousand network clients doing heavy transaction processing, as well as data warehouses with more than a terabyte of data. Like all Sun servers, the Sun Enterprise 5000 server comes with Solaris, the most popular and advanced networked computing environment that supports over 12,000 applications, including all of the important business and database management solutions.
