This server lets you purchase just the amount of computing capacity you need today-then cost-effectively expand that capacity to a level that exceeds most mainframe systems.

Its unique multiprocessing design enables you to increase computational power and I/O throughput via low-cost modular upgrades. And the highly efficient, multithreaded SolarisTM operating environment ensures that users achieve near linear increases in performance as more CPUs and I/O channels are added to the server. The Enterprise 4000 can scale to support extremely I/O-intensive workloads because the GigaplaneTM, our 2.6-GB/sec system interconnect, delivers more than twice the I/O throughput of competing systems. Providing the flexibility to adapt to rapidly increasing computing workloads, the Sun Enterprise 4000 server can support up to 14 high-speed UltraSPARCTM processors, 14 GB of memory, and 14 I/O channels.
